At MarineSolar, we recognise that delivering onboard renewable energy is only one part of the challenge. Providing shipowners and charterers with the data and insights needed to understand, quantify and maximise its value is equally important.

That is why we are excited to be partnering with Sustainable Motion (SU|MO), a specialist in high-frequency measurement and IoT solutions, on a proof-of-concept programme to develop and validate a high-frequency energy monitoring and reporting capability for our NanoDeck™ platform.

While many reporting systems have been developed for land-based applications, vessels present a completely different operating environment, with constantly changing conditions and a moving platform. SU|MO’s experience working onboard ships makes them an ideal partner to help us develop a solution that is purpose-built for operation at sea.

Like MarineSolar, SU|MO’s technologies have been developed specifically for maritime applications – we believe our shared experience in designing systems for operation at sea places us in a strong position to develop a robust, vessel-ready monitoring capability.

The project is being delivered from our office at RDM Rotterdam, where SU|MO is also based. Together, we will integrate NanoDeck™ and SU|MO’s monitoring technology within a dedicated test environment to assess how effectively renewable energy data can be collected, synchronised and displayed through both local and cloud-based dashboards.

Ultimately, the aim is to provide accurate, up-to-date information on the renewable energy generated by NanoDeck™, as well as insights into reductions in fuel consumption, emissions and operating costs.

SU|MO’s role is to make NanoDeck™’s performance visible and measurable by demonstrating how high-frequency operational data can be captured, analysed and presented in a way that delivers meaningful insights.

Together, by validating this approach, we will establish the foundations for a reliable monitoring and reporting platform that supports our customers as MarineSolar moves towards commercial deployment.

Following completion of the project, we will work with SU|MO on a gap analysis to define the functional and technical requirements for a full-scale industrial maritime application, before developing a joint roadmap to support future deployment.
