TBI: From promises to proof

The conversation around maritime decarbonisation is changing. Targets and regulations still matter, but shipowners also want answers to some very straightforward questions: what actually works, what will it cost, and what will it deliver on their vessels?

The reality is that there isn’t one magic answer to maritime decarbonisation. Better fuels, smarter energy management, batteries, wind assistance and onboard solar all have a part to play. But with so many options available, knowing where to invest isn’t always straightforward.

Moving from assumptions to evidence

We’ve listened to what shipowners have been telling us. Most recognise the potential of new technologies, but they’re understandably cautious about making a significant investment without seeing how something performs on their own vessels.

That’s why we launched Test Before You Invest (TBI). Rather than asking shipowners to take a leap of faith, TBI gives them the opportunity to gather real data from their own vessels before making decisions about wider deployment.

TBI is about changing the way new technology is introduced. Designed to fit within research and development budgets, it provides a low-risk opportunity to trial NanoDeck™ in real-world operating conditions without committing to major capital expenditure.

What makes our approach different is that the trial takes place on the shipowner’s own vessel. That means the data gathered is directly relevant to their operation, helping them understand how NanoDeck™ performs in practice and what it could mean for their fleet.

A more informed investment decision

The result is a much stronger basis for deciding what happens next. A TBI pilot can provide real-world vessel performance data, measurable sustainability and efficiency insights, and a low-cost route to evaluating marine solar technology with minimal disruption to vessel operations.

Following the trial, shipowners will have up to twelve months of operational data, giving them a much clearer understanding of how NanoDeck™ performs and helping them decide whether wider fleet deployment makes commercial sense.

Instead of asking Could this technology work for us? they can ask, What have we learned from using it on our vessel, and where could we go from here?

That puts them in a much stronger position to make an informed investment decision – based on evidence rather than assumptions.

At MarineSolar we don’t expect anyone to invest on promises. We want shipowners to see the results for themselves.
